Remembering Woodrow Wilson

This President’s Day, let’s remember Woodrow Wilson, a President so Progressive he created the national security state we know and fear today. President Wilson successfully sold WWI to liberals and most of the left, blacklisting and prosecuting anyone (like Emma Goldman) who dissented under the Espionage and Sedition Acts of 1917 and 1918. He also created the Committee on Public Information, which censored criticism of the war and established the propaganda-for-access model that keeps our media so vigilant and accountable.

Wilson’s internationalism and love of democracy compelled him to invade and occupy Haiti, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba, and send troops to put down workers’ strikes/rebellions in Nicaragua, Colorado, Mexico, Texas, Russia, Panama, Honduras, Yugoslavia, Guatemala, and West Virginia.

I would say that President Obama could learn a lot from Wilson, but he clearly already has. Happy President’s Day!
